Hudson came from a long line of law enforcement officers hell-bent on making the world a better place. And when he failed to protect the one woman he loved, he vowed to spend the rest of his life making up for it by seeing to it that the person who stole her from him – and thousands more like him – were brought to justice.

What he didn’t count on was falling in love with his best friend’s older sister, Sadie Walker, along the way.

Sadie was a single mother who dedicated her career to piecing together forensic evidence that put all the bad guys away – like the dirtbags that assaulted women. And now it was time for her to take her career to the next level, back home in Austin, Texas.

Running into Texas Ranger, Hudson Clark, wasn’t part of her plan when she decided to move in with her younger brother but all too quickly she finds herself feeling things that she hasn’t felt in a long time.

There was just one problem...he’s her brother’s best friend and he reminds her an awful lot of the type of guy she swore she’d never fall in love with again.

Their newfound relationship is put to the ultimate test when their common mission turns up a new lead on something buried in Hudson’s past. He’s determined to do all he can to serve justice and save Sadie. But, this time, it’s Sadie who will end up saving him.

What do I have in common with Tucker Holden?

Nothing and everything.

But mostly our loyalty to my brother.

Which is exactly why I’ve kept my feelings for Tucker a secret.

At least until I went and drunk dialed him… and proceeded to word-vomit everything I’ve tucked away for the last however many years. Including how I wouldn’t mind if he rocked my world, even if just once. Although, of course, I’d prefer a lifetime of his affection.

But that’s not the point.

That message? Yeah, he heard it. Every drunken detail.

But when Tuck catches me in the act and admits to listening to my message more than once, I quickly find out that what's between us is so much more than just a drunk dial.

It could be forever.

Chapter One

“Whoohoo! Girl’s night out bestie!” Kerri cheers and passes me a glass of our favorite merlot.

After a catastrophic blind date on Valentine’s Day, and an even more lackluster sex life, and a shitty week at work - I need this night out more than ever. So, we’re doing what best friends do and celebrating National Drink Wine Day in style at our favorite restaurant and winery outside of town.

Jael is already on her second glass by the time our food arrives and the place is packed. Not that it matters. We always have the best seat in the house thanks to our resident wine connoisseur - Tucker Holden.

Tuck is my older brother’s best friend and has worked at Unwined since he was fifteen. The day I turned twenty-one, he treated me to my first (legal) glass of wine and lunch. I’ve been coming back, with Kerri, Jael, and Kristen, ever since.

Of course, my reasons for coming back may have a whole lot more to do with Tucker than the atmosphere and wine. Not that I would ever admit that to him.

“Okay. Spill, I need all the details about your date on V-day,” Jael says before stuffing a fry in her mouth.

I’m going to need a lot more wine to get through this one so, I grab the bottle from the table, top off my glass and take a long sip before answering.

“First of all, he lives in his parent’s basement. . .”

Jael’s face drops and Kristen starts giggling.

“He does not. Tell me you’re joking,” Jael shakes her head.

If only it was a joke.

“Didn’t he claim that he was a mortgage broker? Don’t those guys typically have money and make smart investments?” Kerri asks.

“Apparently, not.” I go on telling them every single detail. Including the part where he excused himself to use the restroom and never came back. That’s right ladies and gents, I ended up footing the entire bill on Valentine’s Day and I didn’t even get laid. Not even B.O.B. was interested in getting me off.

I guess that’s what I get for not restocking my batteries.

Kristen is practically wheezing because she thinks this whole thing is funny while Jael is stunned silent.

“What about that one guy who wanted to be exclusively friends with benefits? Did you give him a call?” Kerri asks, earnestly.

The only one in our group that has found her happily ever after, Kerri has been doing her best to find a Mister Right or a Mister Right now for all of us, especially me. Unfortunately, it turns out you’ve got to kiss a lot of frogs first.

“Ghosted me after sending a dick pic,” I shrug.

This makes Jael perk up. “Oooo. You got a dick pic and didn’t share? You know the rules, girl. If he’s dumb enough to send one, you’ve got to share it with us.”

Sliding my phone out, I hit the unlock button and pull up my saved messages and turn the screen around so everyone can get a good look.

“Ah, that’s a shame. If that’s really his dick? That could have been some really good lovin’,” Jael clucks her tongue.

“If he knew how to use it. The last guy I hooked up with had no clue what to do with it. Such a waste,” Kristen adds.

“True story,” Kerri agrees. “Lucky for me, Dorian knows what he’s doing.”

She blushes and we all laugh and hold up our glasses.

“Cheers to that!” I call out, right as Mister Bearded Lumberjack The Sex God approaches our table.

Tucker slides half an ass cheek on my chair and wraps his arm around my shoulder. Immediately I’m intoxicated by his scent. It’s woodsy, with a hint of cinnamon and mint. A distinct fragrance that I exclusively associate with him. One that’s more than enough to have me dropping my panties to the floor and begging for his. . .

“What are we toasting to over here?” he opens his mouth to speak, further rendering my brain cells useless.

“Large cocks and the men who know how to use them,” Jael says with a straight face, not missing a single beat.

Tucker’s laughter vibrates through my entire body and it’s nearly enough to send me over the edge. Fuck. Me. Yes. Please!

“All righty then. I had a quick break and just wanted to come over and check on my favorite patrons. Can I get you another bottle of wine?” he offers. “Half price since it’s National Drink Wine Day and all that.”

“In that case, yes! It’s not like I’m driving home,” Kerri replies for all of us. “Dorian is going to pick me up after he gets off work.”

“You’ve got it, ladies,” Tucker says before looking right at me. “Try to behave yourselves back here,” he adds with a wink.

“Whoo, did it just get warm in here?” Jael asks.

Kristen immediately answers with, “I think it did.”

It’s Kerri who looks at me like she’s just hit the jackpot. “That’s it. That’s the answer to your dry spell!”

“No,” I shake my head. I know exactly where this is going. “No. No, no, no, no.”

“Oh, come on. You and Tucker? Amazing chemistry. The two of you could set an entire forest on fire. Imagine unleashing all that in the bedroom,” Kerri adds.

“Hard no.” I take another gulp of wine. “Besides that, Myles would kill both of us.”

“So, you admit there’s chemistry?” Jael teases.

"Annnnnnd, I know you've been crushing on him since like what, 3rd grade?" Kristen joins in, only adding more fuel to the fire.

“I highly doubt Tucker is interested in his best friend’s little sister. Come on now.” At least that’s what I’ve been telling myself since. . . the third grade.

Kerri brushes me off, “Lies! Girl, he is totally digging you. You’d have to be blind not to see it.”

“He’s just being nice. Brotherly. Making sure I stay out of trouble, you heard him.”

“We also saw how he put his arm around you and that wink he gave you before he left. There was nothing brotherly about it.” Kristen quirks a brow, challenging me.

“I think you should lay it all out on the line. Tell him how you feel,” Kerri stares at me over the top of her wine glass while she takes a sip. “What else have you got to lose?”

Oh, I don’t know. My dignity. My heart.

“You know what I think? I think you’re all nuts,” I tell them as I refill my glass again and focus on the food on my plate. “Enough about me. I want to hear about what Mister Perfect did for you on St. Valentine’s.”

And just like that, the heat is off me for a little while. Kerri is off in her own world, telling us all about Dorian’s over-the-top lover’s holiday with that love-sick, swoony look in her eyes. Rightfully so too, Dorian has been amazing for Kerri and he’s absolutely devoted to her - as she is to him.

I couldn’t be happier for my best friend. Love looks good on her and she damn well deserves her happily ever after. It wouldn’t surprise any of us if a proposal was coming her way sometime soon.

Its thoughts of happily ever afters that have me lost in daydreams about Tucker. A whole bunch of what could be float through my head. Including thoughts of one very erotic dream that I’ve had half a dozen times about the two of us together.

Jael nudges my foot under the table and shoots me a knowing smirk. “You’ve got the same look on your face that Kerri’s been wearing.”

I’m gonna need a whole lot more wine to get through tonight if I can’t seem to keep my mind off of  Tucker.
